Who You Are

A Piping Engineer or Designer who takes pride in turning complex P&IDs into elegant, constructible designs? Do you want to work on challenging industrial projects where your technical decisions matter on site?

Saunders International is looking for an experienced Piping Engineer/Designer to join our engineering team. You'll be working across sectors like oil & gas, mining, water, and energy — designing piping systems that are safe, code-compliant, and built to last.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll own the full design lifecycle for piping systems — from initial layout and 3D modelling through to isometrics, MTOs, support design, and site support. Day to day, that means developing piping layouts and 3D models, interpreting P&IDs and translating them into safe, practical designs, and producing isometrics, GA drawings, BOMs, and material take-offs. You'll perform engineering calculations, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to keep designs clash-free, support site teams with RFIs and field changes, and apply ASME, API, and AS/NZS codes to every deliverable.

What You'll Need to Succeed

To be considered for this role, you must be able to demonstrate the following essential criteria:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Piping Design, or a related engineering discipline, combined with relevant industry experience
  • Proven experience in piping design/engineering within industrial sectors such as oil & gas, mining, water, chemical, energy, or infrastructure
  • Demonstrated ability to produce accurate piping deliverables — isometrics, GA drawings, MTOs, and support details
  • Proficiency with piping design software and CAD tools
  • Experience with pipe stress analysis software (e.g., CAESAR II, AutoPIPE)
  • Strong understanding of P&IDs, piping specifications, equipment layouts, and general arrangement drawings
  • Working knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards — ASME B31.3, B31.1, API, and AS/NZS codes
  • Ability to perform and interpret engineering calculations — pipe sizing, pressure drop, flexibility and stress checks
  • Ability to identify and resolve design clashes within 3D environments
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to design accuracy and quality control
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to work independently and within a team
