Electrical Engineer (Design and Control) | Brisbane QLD | Permanent Full-Time
Saunders Automation is a specialist electrical and control system engineering company that has extensive experience in the design, implementation and support of PLC, SCADA and RTU nationwide projects across the power (inc. renewables), water, mining, manufacturing and defence industries.
We are expanding our team in support of our strong pipeline of work and are actively seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our Brisbane team.
As an Electrical Engineer, you will play a key role as part of our existing control system electrical design team working across multiple nationwide projects. You will work with external clients, project managers and other engineers to develop design documentation and electrical schematics according to project requirements. You will primarily set your own schedule and assist in delegation of work throughout the team. Your designs will be used on in-house panel builds, external builds and onsite electrical works.

What you do:
- Electrical design (load flow studies, short circuit studies, circuit breaker selectivity, arc flash studies, earthing design, device selection, IO lists, BOMs, etc) and drawing (control panels, MCCs) deliverables centred around control systems across a variety of industries
- RPEQ supervision and signoff of internal and external client electrical design
- Champion electrical design delivery to meet project requirements
- Draft drawings in AutoCAD (AutoCAD – Electrical)
- Complete markups of drawings/design for drafting by others
- Development and maintenance of internal drawing standards
- Provide technical support and mentoring for both peers and junior engineers in the team
- Be involved in all phases of project design from concept, detailed design, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), As Built documentation and client support.
- Manage work technically and contractually to ensure that it meets Australian, client and internal standards requirements
- Use and continually improve company quality procedures and templates to ensure consistent outcomes
- Propose innovative solutions where established systems are unable to resolve problems
- Actively participate and ensure a productive and friendly culture in the team
- Control system electrical troubleshooting and support
What you need:
Essential
- Degree qualification in Engineering
- 5+ years relevant experience in a similar industry/environment
- RPEQ, or ability to become registered in near future
- Experience being a lead engineer for LV and ELV electrical design to Australian Standards
- Experience with drafting in AutoCAD (or similar)
- Enthusiasm for the role and commitment to continual improvement and growth of the business
- Innovative thinking and attention to detail for your designs
- Experience with common industrial control system design such as: Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider Electric and Emerson
- Ability for site travel for short periods of time on occasion
- Professional level verbal and written English skills
- Australian drivers licence
- Australian citizen, permanent resident, or visa with full working rights
Desirable
- Experience with calculating lightning protection, high voltage protection, emergency lighting and high rise building electrical design.
- Experience with ETAP, SKM Power Tools or PowerCAD
